At the season’s first ASA 3-D tournament in Newberry Florida, it started out right for some of Hoyt’s newest and finest. Taking charge in the largest ASA pro class, Senior Pro and ‘brand new’ to the Hoyt Pro Staff, Derry Null, shot an amazing 218 on his first day’s score; marking the highest half-round score shot in the Senior Pro Class. After two days of competition, only the top five ranked shooters compete in the shoot-down-round. Joining Null in the top five were Hoyt pros Allen Conner and Melvin Shrewsbury. With five archers and five targets, Null shot his way from fifth place all the way to first, clinching his first victory of the season and his first victory with a Hoyt bow.
In the Men’s Open Pro class, the action was equally as intense. Hoyt Pro Staffers, Danny Evans and Kenny Lantz, made the top five. Taking second place, Evans continued his momentum from the 2010 season and notched his first podium finish of the 2011 season.
In the Women’s Open Pro division, two Hoyt Pro Staffers made the top five, Kailey Johnston and Cara Fernandez. At her first ASA event as a professional, sixteen-year-old Johnston went up against the sport’s top-ranked seasoned veterans. After the first two days of competition she shot the highest score in her class, also earning her first ASA podium finish.
