Elzinga, Jones Lead Team Hoyt at Medellin World Cup
The bustling city of Medellin, Colombia was the host for World Archery’s second stage of the World Cup Series. One of the favorite stages of the World Cup series, Medellin was once again a successful stop for Team Hoyt Shooters.
Hoyt shooters Peter Elzinga (Netherlands) and Erika Jones (USA) were golden on the compound side. Elzinga faced a tough road on his way to the gold match, beating fellow Team Hoyt shooter Reo Wilde (USA) in the semi-finals to advance to the gold match where he was easily victorious. The win adds to Elzinga’s already stellar 2014 season, in which he was also victorious at the Indoor World Cup and European Archery Festival in Telford, England. Wilde went on to claim the bronze medal, adding to his long list of World Cup medals.
Jones also ran a tough road into the finals, facing off against fellow Hoyt shooter and two-time World Champion Albina Loginova (Russia) in the semi-finals. The pair tied, and Jones advanced after a one arrow shoot-off was used to determine the winner. No stranger to the big stage, Jones shot confident in the gold medal match and easily came away with victory, and also the Longines Prize for Precision. Team Hoyt’s Inge Van Caspel (Netherlands) added to the Dutch success with a victory over Loginova in the bronze match.
In mixed team action Team Hoyt shooters swept the podium. World Indoor Champion Sophie Dodemont paired with World #1 ranked PJ Deloche (France) to claim gold over World Outdoor and Vegas Champion Mike Schloesser and Inge Van Caspel (Netherlands); while the bronze medal went to the USA duo of Wilde and Jones.
Lisa Unruh (Germany) earned silver in Women’s Recurve, and went on to win Team Gold with fellow Hoyt shooters Elena Richter and Karina Winter.
Olympic Champion and World #1 ranked Oh Jin Hyek (Korea) took the silver medal in Men’s Recurve, and was part of an unbelievable match that saw his Korean team win gold in the team event.
